3D Mapping / Volume

3D Mapping

Affordable 3D Mapping has been unavailable until new developments in software.  Now, with a single 2D camera, we can give you a complete detailed 3D map of your property, we can even tell you the volume of a rock pile or dung heap!

So how do we get a 3D map from a 2D camera?  In a word GPS.  Because our drone knows exactly where it is in 3D space when it takes pictures, these GPS coordinates and altitude are used in the post production software to see where exactly each picture was taken in 3D space.  And because the drone shoots with lots of overlap in the stitched pictures, each point in the property is seen by multiple pictures and the software is able to figure out hight of crops or land! Complicated?  indeed.

This is the drone waypoints where pictures are taken with GPS coordinates attached and altitude is recorded.

Notice how one point on land is recorded by many pictures.  That enables the software to show height of that object.

Volume Measurements

Because of the info that is contained in the above scenario, it is then very easy for the software to figure out volume of a pile of rocks, an empty resevour, a rock quarry, etc.  Note:  3D mapping/volume does NOT work with water or windows.  The reason is each drone picture will see a different reflection and that confuses the software.

To figure out volume, we select the area, delete the rest and the software figures out the volume.

A height contour map (DEM) can also be created.

This is great for irrigation.  You can see the low and high spots.
